Good morning Memorial Families,

Last week, we celebrated reading with a fun beach-themed day that served as a celebration of all of their learning this year and a kickoff to summer reading. Research consistently shows that students who read regularly over the summer maintain and strengthen their literacy skills, expand their vocabulary, and return to school ready to learn. We encourage all students to make reading a part of their summer routine and enjoy exploring new books and topics that interest them.

We were also honored to welcome back our graduating Emerson High School seniors for their annual Clap Out at Memorial School. It was wonderful to see and celebrate our graduating Cavos, many of whom began their educational journeys right here at Memorial. Our students enjoyed cheering them on as they took this important step toward graduation and future success.

Students also enjoyed their final classroom buddy activities of the year. These opportunities have helped foster friendships, build leadership skills, and strengthen our school community across grade levels.

In the Media Center, third grade students coded robots, designed plans, and navigated courses using different objects. They ended with a friendly robot race. The students did a fantastic job!

This week, we look forward to grade level end of year celebrations.

On Wednesday, we will celebrate our third graders with a special Clap Out as they make their final walk through Memorial School. It is a meaningful tradition that allows our students, staff, and families to recognize their accomplishments and cheer them on as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey at Villano School.
We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved during their time at Memorial. Their growth—academically, socially, and emotionally—has been remarkable. We wish each of our third graders continued success, new friendships, exciting learning experiences, and all the best in fourth grade and beyond.

As we close out another wonderful school year, I would like to thank our staff, students, and families for their partnership and support throughout the year.

Please keep an eye out in mid-August for information regarding the upcoming school year. In the meantime, the academic calendar is linked below for important school dates and planning purposes.

Thank you for a fantastic year. On behalf of the entire Memorial School staff, I wish you and your family a safe and happy summer.

Third Grade Clap Out

Dear Third Grade Parents,

It feels bittersweet to announce the Third Grade Clap Out! We will truly miss all of our third graders, but the entire Memorial School community is excited to celebrate their special day with them as they transition to Patrick M. Villano School.

Please note some important information for the event.

Younger students will line the hallways along the path the third graders will take as they walk through and out of the building on June 24th, the last day of school. After third graders walk through the halls, they will exit the building from door 7 facing the basketball courts. From there, they will walk along the side of the building and through the balloon arch to the lower blacktop. Families will meet their students on the lower blacktop.

Please note the following times and procedures during this celebration.

The timing for the students to exit the building is as follows:
  • Ms. Reid’s class - 12:25
  • Mrs. Grupenhof’s class- 12:30
  • Ms. Diekhaus’ class - 12:35
  • Mrs. Gammarati’s class - 12:40

  • Parents will meet their child/children on the lower blacktop. Once your child’s class makes their way down the stairs, please relocate to the middle or outer areas of the blacktop. This allows for the next group of parents to gather close and clap for their child.

We look forward to celebrating your child!

Mrs. Carberry's Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians of Rising Fourth Grade Students,

As the school year comes to an end, it is time to think ahead to 4th grade! The health program of the Emerson Board of Education follows the recommendations made by the Bureau of Health Education of the American Medical Association. It is also recommended by the Bergen County Society of School Physicians. The program provides for the routine physical examination of pupils to be completed by the family physician. It is the family physician who is familiar with the child and has knowledge of family and personal history.

All 4th grade students are required to submit documentation of a current physical examination. As your child has their annual physical examination, please send a copy to Mrs. Carberry at Memorial School. The physical form can be located here Elementary Physical Form. A signed copy of the physician’s form is also acceptable (printouts from the patient portal do not meet the requirement and will not be accepted)

If for any reason you are unable to arrange this examination through your family physician, please contact Mrs. Carberry at 201-599-4178 ext 3600.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in submitting this information prior to the start of 4th grade, so your child will receive the maximum benefits of the program and you can enjoy your child’s transition to Villano School!

All the best to your child as they move on to Villano School!

Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Valerie Carberry, BSN, RN, CSN
